Empowering Institutions, Communities, and Leadership Across Africa
At the International Policy Group (IPG), we believe in the power of policy to build peace, strengthen governance, and create resilient institutions. We are a not-for-profit think tank based in Nairobi, Kenya, working across Africa to support democratic processes, conflict resolution, and civic engagement through rigorous research, inclusive dialogue, and strategic partnerships.
Our Four Pillars (What We Offer)
1. Policy Research & Analysis
We conduct rigorous, context-sensitive research that informs national, regional, and international policy decisions. Our policy briefs, reports, and studies provide the analytical foundation that governments, institutions, and development actors need to implement effective and responsive solutions.
3.Civic Engagement & Advocacy
IPG mobilizes civil society, youth, women, and local communities to participate meaningfully in democratic processes. We provide platforms for dialogue, promote issue-based public participation, and advocate for reforms that advance justice, equity, and accountability.
2. Peacebuilding & Dialogue
We convene peace forums, stakeholder roundtables, and reconciliation dialogues in post-conflict and fragile settings. By creating safe, inclusive spaces for discourse, IPG addresses root causes of conflict and supports homegrown solutions for sustainable peace.
4. Institutional Development
Through technical assistance, training, and policy design, we support governments and civic institutions in strengthening their transparency, rule of law, service delivery, and resilience to political and social shocks.

Our Research
Key Findings from the Ground Zero Reports
Politicization of Security Institutions:
The National Intelligence Service (NIS), Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and national police were repeatedly accused of acting in partisan interest, particularly through covert involvement in voter registration manipulation and suppression in opposition strongholds.
Undermining Legal Frameworks:
Controversial amendments to electoral laws, including the introduction of a manual results transmission system as a backup to the KIEMS electronic system, raised fears of institutional regression and potential election rigging under the guise of technical reliability.
Gaps in Biometric Voter Registration (BVR):
The BVR process lacked national uniformity. There were clear disparities in kit distribution and mobilization efforts, with opposition areas suffering from poor access, which risked disenfranchising significant portions of the electorate.
